Film Review - Home

You Got To Boov It

Film: Home
Voices of: Jim Parson, Rihanna, Steve Martin
Directed by: Tim Johnson
Duration: 1 hr 33 mins
Rating: * * *

Based on The True Meaning of Smekday by Adam Rex, Home is a harmless entertainer that appeals to all age groups. The basic storyline is derivative with shades of E.T. but since it is a breezy film, it ends being an enjoyable joyride.

A bunch of aliens called Boov who look a lot like minions, take refuge on planet earth. They are on the run from the evil Gorg and relocate mankind to colonies in different parts of the planet. Tip (voice of Rihanna) a teenage girl manages to hide from the Boov’s and she meets Oh (Jim Parsons) a Boov who has inadvertently sent the location of his fraternity to Gorg and hence trying to evade arrest.

After the initial bickering, they strike a friend ship and join hands eventually to save the day.

Even though it is a formula based predictable film, Home has its moments. An action set piece on the Eiffel tower is remarkably well executed and on the animation front, the color changing Boov’s add more flavour to the visuals. The Boov way of speaking English is a reminiscent of Yoda’s and perhaps it is done to target the adult audiences.

On the whole, Home will make you feel at home at the cinemas.
